Siemens’ partnership with Sparepartsnow changes how a defined refurbished automation portfolio can reach industrial buyers. It does not announce a new generation of controllers or an automatic upgrade to an older installation. The distinction matters for anyone building a procurement record from the 9 September 2026 announcement.
What changed in the announced channel
Siemens says its manufacturer-refurbished automation products can be purchased through the German B2B marketplace Sparepartsnow. The initial scope is Europe and a defined portfolio including drives, controllers and HMI panels, with wider product and regional coverage planned. The release describes previously used devices restored by Siemens to original technical specifications and characteristics. It expressly says they are not functionally modified or performance-enhanced. These are manufacturer statements, not inspection findings by this publication. Read the dated partnership release, checked on 20 October 2026.
Keep condition, identity and compatibility apart
A procurement description has several separate dimensions. The identity is the exact product and revision. The condition describes whether it is new, previously used or refurbished. Compatibility concerns the intended system and its requirements. A refurbishment claim addresses the second dimension and parts of the manufacturer’s stated process; it does not remove the need to establish the other two for an actual purchase.
For a replacement enquiry, retain the full order number and relevant revision information from the existing documentation. Ask the seller to identify the offered unit equally precisely. A family name or a photograph of a similar front panel cannot establish that the proposed device matches the required version. This is document preparation, not an instruction to work on equipment or approve a substitute.
The marketplace and manufacturer have different roles
The partnership names both a marketplace and the original manufacturer. Keep that relationship visible in an internal supplier note rather than shortening everything to “used parts online.” Equally, do not label every listing on a multi-supplier marketplace as manufacturer-refurbished merely because one such partnership exists. The condition and refurbishment provenance need to attach to the actual offered item.
Before comparing quotations, ask which party supplies the item, what documentation accompanies it and what service terms apply. Those are transaction-specific questions. The announcement alone is not a quotation, a warranty schedule or a reservation of inventory. This report did not inspect listings or confirm delivery to any particular country.
Do not turn circularity into an unmeasured result
Keeping equipment in use longer is the stated purpose of the partnership, but a company’s circularity narrative is not a measured environmental outcome for a particular buyer. Such an outcome would need a defined comparison and evidence about that use case. This article does not calculate emissions, waste avoided or financial savings from the proposed channel.
The same boundary applies to safety and conformity. Statements about restoration to original characteristics should not be used as an independent approval for a current installation. The requirements of an actual project belong with qualified parties and the applicable documentation. No installation guidance is offered here.
The defensible business update is narrower and more useful: two named companies announced an additional European route for specified manufacturer-refurbished products. A purchasing team can record that route, then verify the identity, condition, documentation and terms of a real offer without assuming a new product specification or guaranteed availability.
Primary document review: 20 October 2026. Initial defined automation portfolio in Europe. No company interview, field observation or independent performance test was performed.
